On-going Volunteer Opportunities for Students, Parents, and Staff:

PTA THRIFT STORE:  Please contact the PTA Thrift Shop, to schedule your volunteer hours at (919) 942-6565.   The PTA Thrift Shop - Plaza store -  is located on Elliot Road in Chapel Hill, next to Whole Foods.  Funds generated from volunteer hours offset the cost of all trips, provide financial assistance for student activities, and afford greater opportunities for the entire PACE Academy Community.

READ ALOUD:  Adult volunteers are needed at various times of day to read tests and text aloud to students.  Please contact Jane Miller at janemiller@pace-academy.com to add you name to the list.  Be sure to include your availability (i.e. Mondays from 12:00 – 1:00 PM) in your email.

MEMBERSHIP (PTSA): The membership liaison is responsible for the PTSA membership drive throughout the first month of the semester.  Membership dues and a list of members are collected and submitted to the North Carolina PTSA.  Our goal is to have 100% of our families join because 100% of our students directly benefit from PTSA’s efforts!

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR (PTSA):  The volunteer coordinator is responsible for building a database – used by faculty, staff, and other volunteers – to coordinate activities throughout the school year (car pool connections, test readers, test proctors, chaperones, guest speakers, and PTA Thrift Shop volunteers, etc.).

GRANT WRITING (PTSA):  The grant writing volunteer is responsible for identifying funding sources for which PACE Academy may be eligible, and coordinating the writing and submission of grants to local, regional, and national funding sources.

OUTREACH (PTSA):  The community outreach liaison is responsible for developing activities to welcome new students and families to PACE Academy in addition to maintaining positive relationships with local organizations and businesses.  The outreach individual also coordinates refreshments for staff development, student orientation, parent orientation, staff appreciation, student recognition, and for other special events.

BUILDING & GROUNDS (PTSA):  The building and grounds liaison is responsible for assisting with furnishing and maintaining the campus.  Someone who can be on the look-out for more and better items for the school as well as coordinate clean-up days (scheduled throughout the year to coincide with Saturday School) to handle maintenance and cleaning jobs that are beyond daily routines.  Clean-up days are a great way to meet other parents.

PIRATE FUND (PTSA): The Pirate Fund coordinator will develop and promote a long-term fundraising campaign with a fund drive in November – December.  The Pirate Fund coordinator will develop a simple request for all stakeholders to contribute, with opportunities for employer matches to PACE Academy’s parent organization:  Partnership Achieving Community Education, Inc. (a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation) with the goal of having every family contribute to the Pirate Fund —no donation is too small or too large! Ultimately, all our students benefit!

ACADEMIC SUPPORT (PTSA):  The academic support volunteer will maintain a prioritized list of academic support needs that can be funded by the PTSA:  scholarships for field trips; stipends for professional development; technology needs: computers, digital cameras, projection screens and projectors for every classroom; opportunities for cultural arts experiences: bringing performing artists to the classrooms and making attendance at other performance venues possible; reference books; classroom supplies; and other items requested teacher and student use.
